Two days ago (Friday) I was with my cousin and her 4 four friends of whom I don’t even know.
We were outside in the backyard sitting at a table/patio under an umbrella. The 4 guys/friends of my cousin were smoking marijuana & I think it was just one joint but me & my cousin weren’t smoking.

The guys were passing the joint around us (we were sharing a seat in the middle) and they were puffing and blowing smoke at us.

Now today (Sunday) randomly, I got a call from my new work ordering a drug test.

I’m very worried. Can second-hand marijuana smoke cause me to fail a drug test?

My boyfriend recently bought a propane burner to put on the patio table he said its okay to let it attached but the guy at the store said to take it off every time but its a job to on do it everytime because its attached to the middle of the hole of the umbrella …. does someone can help me with this is it dangerous or not?

I have no lighting equipment at all, but I do have an olympus e-500 camera.

I need to know what are the essentials that I will need to get decent indoor or even outdoor headshots with a pink backdrop?

I was reading about flash bounces, reflectors and umbrella lights. I need to know what do I need and how do i position it or use it? Do i need strobe lighting? What do i need? I’m honestly lost and need help!!!!!
Okay, so i’ve been into photography for about 5 years. The only amateur thing about this is, the lighting aspect. And it’s for a dance studio and i’m related to them. They dont have much money and it’s still on the ground. This is just temporary, so help would be appreciated….

Last July 4th they were burning sticks in a small grill in a condo area that had had no rain in weeks,
It was too close to the building and smelling up my patio furniture chairs pads and umbrella. I brought them in.

Now they have moved a huge paint falling off table in the breezeway where people walk along w/ unmatching plastic chairs. Today they put a big plant behind the potted ones I had put out there 2 months ago in front of the building. In the back they have vegetable plants growing in paint buckets and egg crates. It looks bad. I called the HOA president and emailed her no response.

What should I do?
For Herby’s benefit there are bylaws written for condo’s on what’s acceptable and what’s not. None of this is acceptable.

I’m starting to get into using outdoor flash setups for portraits. I currently have one SB-800 (with umbrella and stand). looking to get some more speedlights. Should I be sticking to Nikon flashes or off camera brands will do the job fine? (money is tight and Nikon Speedlights are $$$). I read about some flashes giving off different colours.

I found a couple of Sunpak 433D I can pick up for .
I have some Phottix triggers that work well (and they can work with my studio strobes to).

Still debating about picking up more speedlights or using a studio light with my Sb-800. Builing a battery pack now for my monolight (white lightning). The speedlights would be way more portable (can fit in my backpack) but the studio light would have way more power.
I ended up buying 2 Yongnuo 460-II off eBay (cost with shipping). Probably going to take a month to arrive tho.

I have a 9′ umbrella on my outside concrete table. Can I paint it? It is faded badly, and is solid beige. The pole is white. I want to paint the fabric a solid color. What do I use?

My husband insists that we should take the umbrella completely off the patio table and lay it down in case a storm comes up when we are gone. Does anyone else do this? I thought you closed it and strapped it with the strap provided.

I want to do outdoor portraits where the background is underexposed or darker and the subject is well lit (I think fashion images).

I know you would need flashes to accomplish this. Can this be done with a couple of speedlights (Nikon SB-800 and an off brand) on stands with umbrella’s? Say if shooting at dusk, will that be enough to light the subject? I do have monlights but I would have to invest in a portable power supply for around 0, not sure I can justify that right now but I’m sure it will be a good investment in the long run.

I thought to shoot this I would meter off the background first to get the exposure I like then stick my subject infront and light the subject until I get a balanced exposure. I read quiet a bit about it and seems way more complicated than that. I have a light meter but if I take a reading from my strobes that will ruin the exposure I already set for my background?
I just bought an arm to mount a reflector on a stand (as i dont have someone to hold it). I think the refector and the speedlights should be sufficient enough? Without have to lug around a powersuply and monolights.
