Should I be held responsible and if so for how much?

Friends of ours watched our dogs (2) for 10 days while we went on vacation. I wasn’t expecting this for free so I bartered work. I worked like crazy…they had just bought a new home that was trashed and I helped clean, paint, repair, move etc almost everyday….after work and on weekends….for two weeks…Now I didn’t mind because they were doing us a favor. On top of that we (husband and I) also spent almost 0.00 to clean their carpets, and help with some cleaning/painting supplies. I wrote a care list that explained everything to a T, packed everything that my dogs would need while we were away. They took in a puppy KNOWING that they had an obligation to our pets, so I voiced my concerns….They shrugged it off and away we went on a much needed trip. While away I called a few times and there were minor issues but nothing horrible…. Upon arrival all was well then the next morning I get a phone call and my friend is mad. She stated that "my dogs ate her outdoor furniture". I asked her what happened and she said she went to let the dogs in (after being outside, UNATTENDED for at least a couple hrs!) and the cushions were destroyed. I asked her which dog’s into which she applyied she didn’t know but the holes were big (implying mine did it?) . I asked her why they were left a lone for so long with out supervision(by the way I had it written in the care instructions to watch them regularly) plus it was over 100 degrees outside. She said that her husband let them out early and she just lets them in and that’s how they had been doing it the entire time. Well I am not saying that my dogs are completely innocent but they NEVER chew anything but bones and toys, unless provoked and I feel that ALL of them may have played a part. Here’s the thing, my wishes for their care weren’t followed as directed….ok I can live with that but I feel as if I am expected to replace 4 plus cushions to an old dirty, smelly , nasty hand me down (not a family heirloom!) OUTDOOR seat. I am beside myself with this and can’t believe that this is even an issue. I understand her frustration but my instructions were ignored, no proof of which dog or dogs did it and I feel as though my hard work/money was not even acknowledged… If I had charged for my labor as well as the carpet cleaning then it would have been cheaper to board them! I am willing to pitch in and purchase used cushions but nothing more , what do you think?

i want to entirely paint a sofa and two chairs ……. help…?

I want to entirely paint a Sofa and Wingback…….. and im scared lol !!!….?
Ok…. I have a old Sofa and matching chairs. I"ve recently had a large patio cover installed over the rear of my house and would like to use the furniture…… and make it like a living room in the backyard… I’m thinking of painting the sofa and chairs and would like to use a paint that will make the furniture somewhat weatherproof as well….. The furniture will be under the very large patio cover….. so it will not be rained on at all, but will be exposed to humidity, condensation, …… and pool water on the tushy..lol Sooo…. Is there a paint that i can use to paint the sofa and chairs entirely …. something that would give the furniture a waterproofing….rubber like coating?? thus changing indoor furniture …. to outdoor furniture…..
Thank for reading….

Why is someone stealing my cigarette butts from my patio?

We live in a gated apartment complex. Our patio is on the first floor. We have a grill, nice flower pots, outdoor furniture, etc. but for some reason someone is digging through our used cigarette butts in the middle of the night and are luckily not even concerned with stealing anything else. We keep them in a silver bowl that has sand in it. They don’t even take all of them, just some. Why? What is going on? How do they know I don’t have cold sores or the flu. This is utterly disgusting to me. Not only that, but for some reason it freaks me out. I don’t like people on our patio. It can’t be animals, there are fences all the way around. I actually followed a trail of our old cigarettes (which cannot be in the grass from us, we always dispose of them in the garbage) through the grass and toward someone elses apartment and tried to watch our porch tonight, but nothing. It has been happening every night for the past two weeks. I quit smoking this week, so this creeper is going to have a lot less cigs to dig through. Any ideas who or why?
Haha I know this is so weird to me, that’s why I’m asking. How are these kids getting out in the middle of the night. Don’t they have parents. I would get these motion activated lights – really good idea – except our complex keeps two bright lights on everyones porches. Thanks for the replies. My husband and I were thinking about putting a disgusting note on them to scare the kids – if that’s who it is – away. Weird. Thanks.

How to keep dog from lifting leg on outdoor furniture?

We have a male and female dog and our male is not neutered because we breed/show. He’s a great dog, but when he goes outside he urinates on anything, including our outdoor furniture, fountains, planters, etc. Is there anything we can spray on certain items in particular that will keep him away from the more expensive and undesirable items for him to urinate on? I don’t mind if he lifts his leg on a tree or shrub, but the outdoor furniture etc. is a problem as we also like to entertain. We can’t fence off the area because our entertainment/patio area is too large. Any ideas? Thanks.

backyard patio/deck expansion…..need ideas or suggestions please…not sure what to do?

I just bought a house…it sits on an acre…each house in the neighborhood has an acre…i have neighbors to each side but noone behind me so privacy is not an issue…..the backyard has nothing! It currently has like a 10×10 regular cement patio slab with the roof extending over it like most houses…..well I want to put some money into the yard to make it look nice cause i love cooking out/relaxing outside…..I am going to buy a hot tub and had thought about building a nice deck and dropping the hottub in the deck…well the more I thought about it is that the current cement slab will not blend in well or look good with a deck…so I have thought about building a huge patio with cool looking cement…I am not sure what I need/want to do…I want to be able to grill, have the hot tub in a good looking area, possibly a portable firepit, outdoor furniture..ect…what should I do?? price range is approx 8k….suggestions please!!

Why won't my Beagle play with toys?

My young male Beagle chews on everything. He’s very destructive, ruining outdoor furniture, even the 9 foot umbrella pole is a victim. BUT everytime I buy him chew toys or rawhide bones, he runs away and hides them never to be seen again. Anybody have answers?

Patio / outdoor furniture?

I cant afford outdoor furniture…I have looked every where and its so expensive (400 and up) is there anything else I can use for patio furniture…any ideas. We live in Oklahoma and I love the warm weather. Could I use a futon..or would it rust? If I brought the mattress in at the evenings…I feel bad that my family cant enjoy sitting outside, but at the moment we just don’t have extra money for a patio set…i have even looked on craigslist and everyone that is selling theirs wants 350 and up for used stuff…any ideas at all would be helpful and please don’t be rude

Do people in your neighborhood…???

Set up shop in the front yard or back yard. I’ve always thought that the back yard is the place for say…outdoor furniture with umbrellas and such. Maybe I’m wrong??? We have neighbors two doors down that basically use their front yard as the back yard. It’s weird…it always looks cluttered and messy. They have a table and chairs w/umbrella, a dog house with small dog tied to it (ick), a kiddie pool, tons of toys, etc. Everyone around here has a nice big backyard…I don’t get it!

Is it normal to set up shop in the front yard?
Personally…I would feel weird sitting at my patio table having dinner with friends in the middle of my front lawn with cars driving by…LOL!
Chetco…your town sounds lovely. :)

Trust me…there is no theme or rhyme or reason with these neighbors, it looks dirty. In my neighborhood, our frontyards are much smaller than the back. We don’t have porches (which would make sense to have a nice set up). It’s just a bit odd. I suppose they could be from some other part of the country where this is the norm, and I should probably mind my business and not let it bother me :D
