7yr old cat, throws up everyday on a different piece of furniture. My wife is sick of cleaning it and it is obviously ruining our furniture. Started about 3 yrs ago when the indoor cat got out for about 5 days. We thought we lost him, but a neighbor found him in their backyard. We got him checked out after picking him up from the neighbor and he seemed fine. The throwing up started not too long after that. Took him back to the vet and had the whole nine yards of tests done on him and found nothing. Tried every possible solution to the "throws up everyday cat" and nothing has worked. To make it worse, it’s not only everyday he does it two times in a row everyday. He throws up on say the upstairs couch, then runs downstairs and 30 seconds later throws up on the carpet or the downstairs couch. The couch cushions have been removed and washed too many times to count. Sometimes he even leaves a trail of throw up. i say all of this because clean up is a nightmare every time. He wails right before he does it, it’s the only time he sounds like that and we know it’s time to get the cleaning equipment. At this point, we just can’t do it anymore. We are thinking about putting him down because we have heard awful stories of what could happen if you drop him off at a shelter. Also if by some miracle he does get adopted, he’s likely to do the same thing to that family and what bothers us is if that happens we have no idea how humane that family will treat him. We feel it’s time. What are your thoughts?
I would say throwing up every day is something thats not physically ok. So to say nothing is physically wrong with him, for me, would not be accurate. We are not taking this decision lightly. We are back and forth on this issue. It started three years ago, so we have been able to test out many different types of food (with plenty of time in between trials) and he throws all of them up. Also, it’s not necessarily related to him eating. He does it at all different times, not necessarily right after eating.
This is the frustrating part. We have tried every suggestion I have read from the answers below. All good suggestions, but unfortunately we have heard and tried all of them.
