Best fabric to use to re-upholster couch cushions?

My couch has seen better days and it is getting worse everyday, especially with two young children in the house. I am getting ready to make new couch cushions for our couch, to save money and also for the project of it all.

Can you suggest a fabric to use? There are so many choices, and I am a little unsure. I saw polyester fabric, which stretches just a tiny bit. I saw some regular old cotton fabric. I didn’t find any couch looking fabric, but will either of these do?

Where can I find a thick, high-density foam?

I need a flexible, firm, high-density foam (a la couch cushions) for a prosthetic I’m making. So far, all I can find costs well into the 0s. Where can I find this type of foam for less money?

Why is it that sometimes I have to raise myself off of my chair to fart?

This morning, I’ve been farting quite a bit, but nearly each time, I’ve had to sort of prop myself up off the couch to fart. It made me wonder why. And my farts seem to have more…um, I guess, velocity. They seem to really shoot deep into the couch cushions — it’s like I’m infusing them with fart. And they are really, extra stinky today also. Any ideas on why I’d need to raise myself off my seat to fart?
I disagree with the theory that I raise myself up so that the air has somewhere to go….the air could find its way out, even as a queef. There must be another explanation!

Do they make special dog beds for dogs that like dark, warm, and enclosed spaces?

I own a whippet who is most happy when he’s bunched up at the foot of a bed beneath a pile of covers, or between two fluffy couch cushions. Most of the time, we tuck him under a blanket so he can stay warm, but when we’re out of the house he’ll climb in the bed to try to warm up. Are there beds that are made special for dogs like this? All I’ve ever seen is the normal, flat, open type of dog bed.

How Do I Completely Replace My Couch Cushions?

Ok, so like a lot of people have problems with, my 3 dogs have completely destroyed my couch cushions. Wouldn’t be so much of an issue except that we’re living in a pre-furnished home that we rent. We’re looking to move out in 2 months, and don’t want our land lord knowing that the couch is destroyed. (she didn’t make us pay a security deposit, but it’s the right thing to do) Anyways, I need to replace both the foam and the fabric… I need to know what type of foam to use, and where is the best place to match the fabric of the couch to replace it? Or is there somewhere I can make an order to have someone make the cushions for me and ship them to me??? I’m desperate for help guys!! :( ((

Please, no snide remarks, I’m not in the mood.

Cat throws up everyday, deciding on whether to euthanize?

7yr old cat, throws up everyday on a different piece of furniture. My wife is sick of cleaning it and it is obviously ruining our furniture. Started about 3 yrs ago when the indoor cat got out for about 5 days. We thought we lost him, but a neighbor found him in their backyard. We got him checked out after picking him up from the neighbor and he seemed fine. The throwing up started not too long after that. Took him back to the vet and had the whole nine yards of tests done on him and found nothing. Tried every possible solution to the "throws up everyday cat" and nothing has worked. To make it worse, it’s not only everyday he does it two times in a row everyday. He throws up on say the upstairs couch, then runs downstairs and 30 seconds later throws up on the carpet or the downstairs couch. The couch cushions have been removed and washed too many times to count. Sometimes he even leaves a trail of throw up. i say all of this because clean up is a nightmare every time. He wails right before he does it, it’s the only time he sounds like that and we know it’s time to get the cleaning equipment. At this point, we just can’t do it anymore. We are thinking about putting him down because we have heard awful stories of what could happen if you drop him off at a shelter. Also if by some miracle he does get adopted, he’s likely to do the same thing to that family and what bothers us is if that happens we have no idea how humane that family will treat him. We feel it’s time. What are your thoughts?
I would say throwing up every day is something thats not physically ok. So to say nothing is physically wrong with him, for me, would not be accurate. We are not taking this decision lightly. We are back and forth on this issue. It started three years ago, so we have been able to test out many different types of food (with plenty of time in between trials) and he throws all of them up. Also, it’s not necessarily related to him eating. He does it at all different times, not necessarily right after eating.
This is the frustrating part. We have tried every suggestion I have read from the answers below. All good suggestions, but unfortunately we have heard and tried all of them.

what type of board or some substitute material can I use to put on top of the cover on worn-out couch springs?

The srings are really worn out and I’m think can I put some type of plastic or wooden board between the couch cushions and the cover of the springs where I sit, because the couch sinks too much. Also, what about the area where you put your back on the couch. The support for my back when sitting is too little because that part of the couch "gives" too much, maybe theres something I can do about that also.
