My cat has a lot of good reason to be pissed off. One is becuase in the past 6 months we have moved to 4 different places. This is the 5th. I BOUGHT this condo, so there will be no more moving.
(Was staying with different people until the closing of my condo took place. Could’ve stayed with my fiance who lived with his mom, but they smoked in the house and i have very bad allergies to that kind of stuff)…
I noticed a wet spot on my couch this AM. I put my hand in it thinking my fiance maybe spilled something on it…smelled my hand…sure enough – pee.
Now, luckily my cats pee isnt quite as strong as mosts. I dont know why that is…it doesnt have that amonia smell to it. THANK GOD. But still, I do NOT want this smell on my couch!!
I immediately ripped the cushion covers off, as to make sure that it didnt soak through. I dabbed the actual cushions with a damp sponge to try to soak up anything that may have gotten through…and i rushed the covers over to the sink and hand washed them with some dish soap (closest thing to me).
I also mixed vinegar with a little bit of water in a spray bottle and sprayed everything A LOT!! Now I have the coushions air drying (from the vinegar spray) near my back sliding door, and the coushion covers are hanging over a chair near a window to air out.
Before putting the covers back on i’m going to wrap the actual cushion in a plastic garbage bag incase this happens again – so that it will not soak through.. and i’ll only have the covers to worry about.
Any other suggestions for getting the smell out? This is the first time he has EVER done ANYTHING like this, and I know its because hes acting out from all the moves (plus moving to our new condo, my boyfriend has a kitten. I know it wasnt the kitten because the kitten stays locked in the bedroom with us while we sleep because hes really really little and we’re afraid that my big cat – who doesnt take well to other animals, might hurt him)… My cat never slept in the bedroom anyways (hes kind of anti-social…but i love him so so much. I could never get rid of him)..
The cat is no longer allowed in the room where the couch is (there is a door to close this room off)…
Should I keep my cat in a spare room for the time being?? what do i do to make sure this doesnt happen again? I’ve been trying to give him lots of attention, I got him lots of nice little cat-nip kitty toys that he loves…i leave the window open a crack so that he can sit there – even though its freezing outside. And I pet him every time he walks by me (even though he clearly does not want to be pet. Hes one of those VERY indepednant cats)…
Any suggestions for
1. getting the smell out for good
and
2. preventing this from happening again?
