protective training gear on the cheap?
me and my friends are trying to start some martial arts sparring practices, we all have our own distinct mixture of styles, but what we all have in common is our whimpy wallets.
so i have a few questions for those in the know about good, cheap training gear and alternatives for short term solutions.—
gauss, does it make a suitable substitute for hand wrappings.
i saw some cloth and foam arm and leg gaurds, will they be good for cushioning blows until we can afford better gloves and pads.
and will tapeing foam padding to our shins and the bottoms of our feet be okay for cushioning blows until we can save up for more official gear.
thank you in advance for your time.

Amazon.com actually has some good stuff. I got some stuff from Title Mixed Martial Arts through there.

Open up a McDojo. Worked for the bums who scammed me.

Amazon.com sells cheap stuff but they aren’t good in quality. I would rather save up and buy better stuff that lasts a while then keep wasting my money on stuff that easily gets damaged.

Let me get this straight, you and your buddies are going to start sparring each other without supervision or instruction, without insurance, and your principal concern is spending a little money as possible for gear that is to protect you from getting hurt? Is this sounding like a really bad idea yet?
That sounds like a new motocross rider trying to save money by duct taping egg cartons to his skull.
What you need to do is to wait until you have enough money to get proper gear that will do what it’s supposed to do – keep you from getting hurt. Anything else will give you a false sense of security and cause more damage. You also need to make sure you have insurance to cover the injuries that do happen and liability waivers for when someone decides to sue someone else when they get hurt.

I know that the Play it Again Sports near me has a pretty big section of used Taekwondo pads sitting in the back – well, usually hiding on the top shelf in the way back. If you have something like that near you, you may get lucky.
