my neighbour neglects her 7 month old kitten – HELP?
I dont know what to do – my neighbour was given a kitten by her brother – she does not seem to look after it very well. During the cold 5 degree nights just this last winter – the kitten was always finding its way into our shed. It went on for most of the winter. I took the kitten back to her a couple of times – and asked her if it was being fed properly and was it desexed. The second time I took it back to her – I told her it was not the way to treat an animal. It is skinny, it has killed 11 birds in the last 7 weeks. It is not left any food or water during the day. Come the weekend – Emily disappears for the weekend, and the cat is always hanging around my house. It was eating a peice of bread that was out in my backyard. It balances on the edge of my above ground pool to get a drink. It has jumped from the top of my shed onto an outdoor umbrella (and ripped a big hole in it). It always kills birds and leaves them in my driveway. Emily is away from 7am till when she finishes teaching. Emily is a primary school teacher and she is 26 years old. She does not give a damn about the cat. It climbs up on my front door screen trying to get in and the cat screams at me when I try to move it away from my front door. Help please. What should I do? This animal deserves much better than her. I do not want a cat personally myself. My main concern is the neglect, and all the birds it has killed (including a whole nest of baby birds). I am really upset that this kind of behaviour on her behalf is occurring. Does she not realize that cat will live at least 20 years. On one other time that I took the cat back – she locked it inside for 3 days. I have heard her yelling at the cat – to get of the bench. I have also heard her throwing plates, glasses (or whatever) when her boyfriend (ex -now) found out that she had been screwing around. He was going out with her for over a year – and they had a massive brawl lasting for 3 hours – with him calling her a slut, over and over again. But my main concern once again is for the welfare of the cat – it does need to be treated humanely. Any good answers or solutions would be good. I thought I would have had a solution – but I seem to be fighting my own little war.

call your local humane society or animal protection office and tell them that you suspect a neglected cat. or just find someone who will take care of the cat and give it to them.it may be stealing, but i think that it is fully justified stealing.or ask her to please properly care for her cat and explain your concern for it’s welfare.it may not help, but always try

Call the SPCA or whoever the animal welfare people in your area are. They will do everything anonymously and possibly take the cat away from this emily person to be adopted into a loving home.

I don’t know if the things you mention would be a case of animal cruelty, but you could address it with the ASPCA to be certain.Perhaps you could ask her if you could have the cat, she doesn’t seem interested in it, or fond of it…I wouldn’t tell her that!. You could tell her you’ve grown attached & then find kitty a different home.

Report her to the Animal Police or take the cat to the SPCA they will care for it and find it a nice home

Call your local Humane Society ASAP! They should take the cat away from those owners. If they can’t take care of a cat, they shouldn’t have one!!! Hopefully if the cat does get taken by the humane society that the cat will get adopted into a loving home. While your waiting for the Humane Society or another organization like them, you could leave out some food and water for the cat in your yard that way the cat doesn’t have to kill so many birds. That’s so sad!

That poor kitty — what a sad story. I’d take her myself. I agree with everyone — the cat could not do worse, almost any situation would be an improvement over starving, freezing and cruel neglect. The only down side of reporting her is that the cat may remain there quite a while longer while she’s on "warning" from the authority. If you think she’d agree to re-homing I’d approach the subject but a lot of people say no — they want to keep the animal out of pride or because it was from her brother and think nothing of its suffering.
Guess I’d call SPCA for advice and what is the process. If you don’t find a satisfactory answer, then explore another nice neighbor who might want to put out food and and bed and eventually it will move down a few doors and just stop going back to that other place where it’s owner doesn’t care.
I’d never advise anyone to steal a cat but if the cat happens to wander away, as she has several times, and adopts you (or someone else) then you may feel free to find it a new loving home. Meanwhile maybe an old blanket and a bowl of kibbles in the shed will keep it from eating birds or starving.

It’s a very, very simple solution. Call your County’s Animal Services ASAP, explain the situation, especially add about the cat being skinny, drinking out of a pool, no food/water left out for it and her yelling at the cat. They will come check out the situation and hopefully she will turn the cat over to them since she obviously doesn’t care for the cat.
You can call them anonymously or tell them you don’t want the neighbor to know it’s you that complained if it makes you feel better.
(If it were me, I’d be reading her the riot act and tell her how to take care of a cat properly and that I was going to turn her in to Animal Services).
Poor little thing.
p.s. Animal Neglect IS animal cruelty! And also, if the cat is emaciated and has been left in the freezing weather, they can take the cat immediately w/out a seizure warrant. It’s all about the well-being of the cat and if they see it’s obvious it has been neglected, they will take it on the spot. I also agree with the person about the birds. This cat is starving and has no other alternative.
Also, I highly agree with the person who said to leave blankies, kibble and water out in your shed so it can have a semi-warm place to be. No animal deserves this treatment, it’s insane!
You can make a big difference in this cat’s life! Please do it very soon.

you really need to call the rspca to get that kitty out of there, that isn’t good for the kitty. how would she like it if she was treated the same way she wouldn’t like it at all, you need to do something for the cat and get it out of there before it is killed. don’t worry about your neighbor she needs to go to jail and be treated badly for hurting a poor kitten. call your local rspca for the cats sake and health. please you need to do something because your neighbor will kill it

WTF does some fight your neighbour had with her boyfriend have to do with a kitten??? If your neighbour upsets you so much, quit spying on her already.

Call you local ASPCA or take the cat yourself to a local no kill shelter or someone that will give it a good home. Peolple like that should not be allowed to have animals.
