Keep painted. Clean and repaint on a regular ongoing basis. I assume the patio furniture is either black or white so finding spray paint to match should be easy.
There are chair leg protectors that are like coasters. These are generally plastic or rubber and are generally used indoors to keep chair or table legs from marring the floor. One caution – make sure water has a way to escape. You can cut a slot into the surface so as to allow water to run off.

The patio furniture usually has nylon or plastic pads on them. If you know who made the furniture that manufacturer should have them. To prevent rust on iron furniture use a clear coat vinyl spray or clear coat epoxy paint. The home stores such as home depot sell plastic casters that fit some tubular constructed furniture.
