The seat cores( foam) might be worn out or the seat spring may have some sag in them. You could replace the cores or you could have a local handyman add some seat springs. You could also weave some roping between the springs to give them more strength.

On some couches, the cushions have a zipper. If you open it, you often have foam or cotton. You could always add more of it. But it sounds like it’s time for a new couch. lol.

It might help to out a large piece of plywood under the cushions. This will prop them up in the problem is in the structure of the couch.

I had the same problems. I just rolled up some thick beach towels and put under the cushions. it created the thickness and firmness. Just use old towels.

BUTERFLY LOVER IS RIGHT. ITS A REALLY GOOD IDEA, AND IVE SEEN THAT ON SO MANY COUCHES.

Have a piece of 3/4" plywood cut to fit under the cushions. That will help if the springs are shot. If the cushions have deteriorated, you can buy 4" foam and make new ones.
